Prof. Ihonvbere mourns death of ex-Edo Speaker, Zakawanu Garuba

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Prof. Julius O. Ihonvbere, OON, OGI, FNIAM, has mourned the passing of former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Zakawanu Garuba.

In a statement on his official twitter handle @HonIhonvbere, the lawmaker and Chairman, House Committee on Basic Education and Services, said he was shocked over the news of the former speaker’s death.

“I received with shock, the news of Rt. Hon. Zakawanu Garuba’s death,” he said. “I want to extend my sympathy and condolence to the entire family over the great loss,” Prof. Ihonvbere added.

Rt. Hon. Garuba was elected into the Edo State House of Assembly in 2003.

While in the House, he served as chairman of the House committee on judiciary, human rights, and legal matters. He became Speaker in 2007.

Hon. Zakawanu Garuba died at an Abuja hospital on Saturday, at 54.
